Hey everyone, hope you’re having a great weekend. First, I want to take a minute to say how grateful I am for each one of you who subscribes to this email. Writing this weekly newsletter is my favorite part of my job—it’s become the place where I pour most of my creative energy, and allowed me to return to my love of writing. Sometimes, I wonder if anyone will be interested in this or that story from my life, so when you comment and share and let me know what resonated for you—it truly means the world. Thank you.
Today’s post is about gut health, a topic I’ve share a lot about on the site, because it’s an area of my health that I’ve struggled with for years. I’ve been wanting to give you a full update, because this year I’ve reached new levels of healing when it comes to my digestive issues, and it’s been life-changing. But before we dive in, I wanted to share some thoughts on setting “weekend expectations,” plus a few recommendations on great things to read, listen to, and cook this week.
Setting Expectations for the Weekend
Ever since we started our “no-screen Saturday” tradition, it’s become my favorite day of the week. It’s a day set aside for true rest, togetherness, and fun.
That said, it’s easy to put expectations on how a “perfect day” is supposed to look, and when you’re dealing with real life—people and circumstances—we all know that things often don’t go according to plan.
Here’s something I wrote in my journal on Monday morning. I wanted to share it here in case anyone needs this reminder as much as I do:
